Photovoltaic Cells: Photovoltaic (PV) cells , also known as solar cells, are the building blocks of solar panels and other solar energy systems. These cells are semiconductor devices that convert sunlight directly into electricity through the photovoltaic effect, a phenomenon discovered in the 19th century by French physicist Alexandre-Edmond Becquerel.
